Some budding Y6 drama students took part in the Shakespeare Schools Festival 2024. They have been working for the past 2 terms on their performance of Macbeth which was performed at South Hill Park in front of a big audience. They worked really hard to learn their lines and were truly brave in their performance. What a great experience and loved by all! Mrs Turner, Miss Parkinson and all the adults who attended were SO proud of them all! #GetInspiredByDrama #Shakespeare #Macbeth #StepOut&BeBrave

World Bood Day 2024 - we love reading at Floreat and World Book Day did not disappoint. All around the school was an air of excitement as stories were shared between children and adults. Children completed reading rivers, book reviews, wrote stories and enjoyed talking about their costumes #WorldBookDay #Reading4Pleasure #GetLostInABook

Last week, Y1 learned about Beatrix Potter and Vincent Van Gogh and how they used observational skills to draw the nature around them. This week we turned into artists and used that technique of observation to draw plants we had in the classroom, some flowers and some leaf rubbings. The children worked really well practising their shading techniques in their sketches. We hope you enjoy looking at them. #WeAre Artists #Sketching #Shading #ProudChildren

Our children are enjoying the Garden area at the far end of the school. The logs have been moved down here so that the children can sit, lie down or investigate them. With the warmer weather this week, books and colouring were introduced. The school council are talking with their classes about what equipment we need in this area such as, picnic tables and an outdoor kitchen #PlayIsEssentialForBrainGrowth #EncourageAllTypesOfPlay #FindYourAreaAndEmbraceIt

Year 4 went to Milestones Living History Museum for their school trip. The Victorian programme is designed to help us understand how aspects of life and work in Britain changed in Victorian times for adults and children by learning about education and industrial developments. The children participated in a Victorian school lesson having their hands inspected for cleanliness and using slate and abacuses for learning. #BringingLifeToHistory #MakingSenseOfChange

To complete our learning in Reception about ‘Why animals use shelters’, the children designed and made their own shelter for a mouse. Whilst drawing their design, the children thought carefully about the materials they wanted to use and what they may need to include to make it a perfect shelter for a mouse! The children used their plan to work collaboratively together with their parents to assemble their shelters #LetsGetThinking #Design&Make #Family&ChildPartnership #MouseShelters 🐭

Armistice service - the whole school came together as a mark of respect to remember the soldiers that died in the First World War. Each child laid a poppy as a mark of respect. ‘Flanders Fields’ by John McCrae, was read out to the children and Mrs Davis played the viola for us all to listen to. The school fell silent for 1 minute ….we will remember them! #ProudThanksgiving #Silence #Memorial #Reflection

Year 2 have been learning about what makes the best coat as part of their curriculum studies. As part of this, they discussed how everyone has the right to feel safe and warm. They decided to set up a local campaign to collect donated clean, warm winter coats to give to The Cow Shed: a Berkshire charity which supports the local community with clothing. In their Personal Development lessons Y2 made colourful posters to raise awareness of the campaign. If you have any coats that you or your children do not wear anymore, please bring these to the Y2 classrooms in the morning or afternoon. All bags need to be clearly labelled to The Cow Shed. Year 2 will sort through the donations on Friday 20th October and they will arrange for the coats to be taken to The Cow Shed @thecowshedcharity #GiveALittleMeansALot #UNRightsOfTheChild #LocalCampaign #LetsThinkOfOthers #ReuseReduceRecycle♻️

Thank you to everyone for all the donations towards our Harvest collection. Wokingham Foodbank came to talk with our children about how the Food-bank works and why it is essential that it exists: even in Wokingham! We will still be collecting donations tomorrow ☺️@wokinghamfoodbank #DonateToday #Foodbanks #EnoughFoodToGoRound

Y1s had a wonderful visit from Ned the Cockerpoo. Prior to his visit, the children learned how to write questions to find out the answers they wanted to know. Ned is 5 1/2 years old and loves eating scrambled eggs as a treat. The children were then taught about how to keep safe when they encounter dogs: if a dog is sleeping, leave them alone; stay quiet around dogs; always ask the owner if you want to stroke their dog; if a dog takes your toy, tell the adult; if a dog sniffs you, just stand still; if a dog is eating, leave them alone and if you stroke a dog remember to use kind hands. If you would like to talk ‘dog safety’ with your children then look at the Learn with Dogs Trust web site #BeSafeBekind #BeEducatedAroundDogs @learnwithdogstrust

As part of the Wokingham Book Festival, we were visited by Karl Nova, a poet, author and rap artist. The children form Y4 to Y6 were captivated by his story and rolled around laughing at his anecdotes. What a great role model for our pupils: whatever life brings remain focused! If you have a talent: use it! @karlnova #Poetry #KnowYourNurseryRhymes #ReadReadRead #You’reAPoetAndYouDon’tKnowIt
